940 SE AUTO ENGINE CUT OUT (AGAIN !)
Help , any members out there that can restore my faith in my car ? In the past 5 months my car has cut out while driving for no apparent reason. Once it has died, after a few minutes she will restart again but the EMISSION WARNING LIGHT stays on. I could be driving along ,normal conditions then the warning light comes on then all the other lights come on and the engine dies. So far the members have suggested changing the AMM UNIT, the idle valve has been cleaned and checked, the oxygen sensor has been changed. The last time I posted a message it was suggested to change the DISTRIBUTOR HALL SENSOR. I don't think my vehicle has one but I changed the amplifier which is also a common fault. If things do not change soon I am tempted to sell the car and buy a skoda ! Anyway third time lucky I hope this time a cure can be found. The vehicle details are as follows: 1991 940SE AUTO SALOON 2.0 (B200F)People have suggested that the lift pump in the fuel tank may be at fault. Also the warning light may not come on all the time, once I have reset it. I suppose the injection system may be faulty, but where do I start. Please help.

RE: 940 SE AUTO ENGINE CUT OUT (AGAIN !)
Two ways to find out if you have a hall sensor. Look under the distibutor and see if there is a plug with 3 wires going in. Not the thick HT ones. If there is a plug you have a hall sensor. Second way is to look at the top of the bell housing directly behind the engine block. If there is a plug that goes in here this is the flywheel position sensor. If it has one then there is a good chance that you have not got a hall sensor. Hall sensors were a real problem and when my mates went (at a certain temperature every day) there were no replacements to be found in any scrappers so it must be a commonish problem. Cheers Nigel PS I'm having more problems with my 1998 940 than my mate has with a 1991 Skoda so I think that there is a moral here as well as price advantage.

RE: 940 SE AUTO ENGINE CUT OUT (AGAIN !)
I fear that your looking in the wrong area....
Check where your relays are located, they should be located above the transmission tunnel behind the drivers side dashboard panel. Remove this panel, it's rather large by the way, then look for relay marked "B" and coloured green, REPLACE this, as it's suffering from the dry joint syndrom. Not Easy to repair, as they're microfractures and difficult to spot. Good Luck... keep me posted:-) Regards Dave M |
