Default Where is the amp on my 960?!!!

I have a harness of my previous 940 to connect a newer stereo to.
But on my 1991 960 I cannot find the amp.
Where is the amp sittuated on this car?
I have spent nearly 2 hours searching this site for the answer but I am at a loss.

Thanks
SC

Have you checked under the dash to the right of the steering column ? That's where it was on my last 760, so maybe worth a look if you haven't already done.

I am a bit concerned I unplug something I shouldn't!!!!

Thanks

I've no experience of 900 series cars, but on my 740 it's in the LHS boot corner underfloor compartment...

You need a copy of VADIS, I'll have a look tonight if I remember.

Alternatively, you could rewire the speakers completely. It's a bit of a hassle, but certainly possible. I did a similar thing when fitting an aftermarket central locking system on a BMW.

I have the bypass cables so if I could just find the amp it should be a plug and play job.

Here's a picture of the amp. for 740 and 940's that are fitted with it. It is bolted (x2) to the strength strut that run from the ignition switch to under the windscreen on the driver's side (UK). Up over the right knee under the trim.

I have done this mod with the correct AutoLeads harness PC2-19-4 (with amp bypass leads) to convert to ISO wiring and connect to the existing loom and separately bypass the amp. It's a doddle.

The amp only feeds the front and rear doors. The front speakers are fed from the original radio via the existing loom if you have 6 speakers. The Autoleads harness also connects the new radio into the existing loom to feed the front speakers.

PS - forgot to say the other thing in the pic is the back of the multi-connector to the ignition switch. Nothing to do with the radio amp!
