Default 2015 V70 D5 need advice on the engine

Hi everyone!

I am considering buying a 2015 V70 diesel with a 5 cylinder 2.4 L D5 engine. Should I expect this 2015 D5 have the faulty piston rings as a VEA 2015 4 cylinders do and as a result be an oil burner? Thanks!

p.s. I am currently driving a first generation D5 which is bulletproof and trouble free, but want to make sure Volvo did not do anything to these engines in the ‪2015 - 2016‬ era that would cause oil consumption due to emissions.

and also no swirl flap malarky to worry about, only failing electronic door locks. Can't have every thing I guess.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the last of the 5 cylinder D5 engines – I moved from a Euro 4 D5 to the latest Euro 6 and it’s a marked improvement. The power delivery is much smoother and the turbo lag is all but gone.

I didn't think they fitted the euro 6 5 cylinder 2.4 L D5 engine to the V70 it stopped at euro 5? The XC70 on the other hand I believe did get the euro 6 for about 12 - 18 months as the production went on a bit after the V70? Might be wrong though.

Yes, you’re right. I think the last D5 fitted to the V70 was the 215 Euro 5 version.
