Default Faint rattle since suspension overhaul.

XC70 2011 D5

Hi all.
Following on from my (now fixed) headlight issue (previous, separate thread) I have another issue.

Looking for inspiration......

I have recently replaced the shockers and springs, front and rear on our XC70. I only replaced like for like - I wanted to upgrade to Nivomats but baulked at the cost of that! I only did it because of age/ time and the ride felt really wallowy (more than usual! lol)

It now is noticeably higher sat on the drive (looks 'proud' again!) and rides much better.

However, there is now a faint rattle from somewhere. I think it's from the rear, but cant be sure?

I've emptied the boot, took the luggage cover out, checked the pet gate etc etc. It's still there.

So I changed all the link arms - front and back. Still there!

Beginning to tear my hair out on this - what it might be.

Anyone got any ideas ?

It's just had the MOT and passed (at Volvo!). The only advisory that I suppose could possibly be related, was

'suspension arm ball joint dust cover severely deteriorated offside front lower'

So I will be changing that (I will do ball joints both sides tbh whilst at it), I suppose it (they?) could be rattling away?

Would anyone agree / dispute that?

Cheers

I'd check your brake pad anti rattle spring clips.

Does this happen when going over bumps in the road?

From experience check your rubber exhaust strap is holding the exhaust to the bracket properly...it may be damaged, perished or just not pushed onto the bracket far enough.

Worth a look.

Hope this helps.

They were fitted, but there was still the odd faint rattle somewhere. See later post though - some time later it all seemed to settle down, no noises anymore! I wonder if all just needed to 'bed in'?

Hi all
Just an update, as you may see in the specific answer above, some time later it all seemed to settle down, no noises anymore! I wonder if all just needed to 'bed in'?
Happy days!
