Rear Link Arm bushes replacement 2005
I have a knock on the back end of my 2005. It is always in the vertical axis which has helped me narrow it down as follows.
I need to replace two bushes. On the Rear Link Arm (both sides) I have identified the bush as 31277899 in the attached diagram which is held in place by a bush retainer 31277897 with 2x bolts. It is the forward upper part of the link arm bush part number 31277899. The bolts are covered in underseal so that'll need cleaning off but is it a matter of just unbolting the two bolts and remove the retainer and fit them back in reverse ? Does any part of the suspension on that side need supporting to stop it twisting out of place while I refit ?? Surely it cant be that simple can it ?? I cant figure out how to attach an image so here is a link https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173535682...BoC-rgQAvD_BwE IMG_20220713_205459.jpg IMG_20220713_210449.jpg IMG_20220713_210727.jpg IMG_20220713_180425 - Copy.jpg

Thanks Neil, very helpful
I spotted on the www that the bushes are seperate to the retaining bracket, at least to buy them anyway. I wonder if buying just the bushing and pressing it into the retainer bracket would be possible too which might eliminate any manufacturing change to the dimensions of the bracket. Just went for the complete unit, 1 I don't have a press, and 2 the brackets were also corroded through at a couple of points. I'd say it would be false economy to not replace the brackets at the same time.
From memory they were about £50 each from the local Volvo dealer, and from the invoice that was about right. I got new bolts too. See the attached photos of the both old brackets and bushes. Neil |

This is a ballache of a job!
I got the spring down a bit to access the bolt and with a bit of leverage the bushing came out. The bushing is knackered, so I just have to find a supplier that isnt charging and arm and a leg. My local Volvo dealer is circa £100 each side ! The retianining bolts are steel but go through the aluminium bracket so they have corroded making them difficult to remove.
