Default March 22 Car Software Updates

Hello Guys,

From Volvo Site.

Updates from March 2022

3G internet connectivity no longer available in the U.S. and EU.
Drivetrain optimisation adjustments.

What does 3G no longer available means in practice?
Does anyone know?

Thanks.

It means that coverage is so good now with 4th and 5th Generation that 3 g can be switched off to save resources . most systems can read 3, 4 and 5G and choose the best signal in difficult areas .

I dont think Volvo's modem is 4G let alone 5G.

The older SPA cars only had a 3G rather than a 4G modem. I'm not entirely sure of the dates, but my first XC90 was a MY17 (built May 2016) and just missed out on the upgraded 4G modem, so I think they either came in MY17.5 or MY18.

The above description would suggest to me that the older cars with 3G modems will no longer have an internet connection, but I don't really see why this would come via a software update

it means that 3g has been turned off in the US by the mobile networks there, euopean networks are slowly turning 3g networks off too

the software update is to tell the car to stop blasting out a 3g signal trying to connect to a non existant network
