Default 2.0D exhaust replacement?

Im a little lost. the backbox on my 08 2.0d V50 has pretty much rotted out and needs replacing. Am I right in thinking the exhaust is one piece right the way though to the joint at the front. Its euro 3 without a DPF but I have a 6" diameter 2-3ft long pipe before the back box. There's no joint between them and I'm confused as to:

A- what it is
b- will it come with the replacement back box?

Also when replacing the exhaust is there anything else that needs to be removed to get access or can I just wiggle it all free?

Okay so ive answered the first part, its the centre silencer (duhh) and it obviously doesn't come with the new backbox. So question is, how easy are these bolts on the front of the centre box to undo after being sat for 6 years and will I have to remove anything extra to get the exhaust off?

hi
I lot of car makers put a long one piece rear exhaust system on to new cars before the rear suspension is put on the car. If the pipe in front of the rear box is in good condition you can cut it and a fit the new short backbox to it.
I have not done this on the Volvo but have done it on a pug 307. I cut the backbox off and removed the long pipe so I could mark the correct place to cut it for the new backbox off the car a lot easier.
If this is too much hassle you could buy a new backbox and pipe and just fit
hope this helps
Mark

They are double skinned. If it's just the outer skin leave it it will last year's. My outer skin pealed off about 3 years / 50k miles ago, independent specialist wanted to replace it but main dealer said leave it.

Same as above,
If it isn't blowing then leave it alone.
If it's only the first skin then it's only half way through its life!

Thanks, I got a new cat-back exhaust system in the end. My MOT place was getting funny about the exhaust corrosion. its gone from "corroded backbox" to "badly corroded backbox" to "Serious corrosion on back box" in the last 3 years of MOT. I was getting annoyed with it! Im assuming I can just wriggle the new part up into place?
