Default still no stop start

so I've had my small battery replaced and the monitor reset but still no stop start working. is it now time to replace the big battery? if I do replace it, is this going to solve my problem or could there be something else wrong? I thought it was the small battery that controlled the stop start function.

Unfortunately you have probably replaced the small battery without needing to. The small battery is on,y used for running the accessories while the engine is stopped so gets quite an easy life.

It’s quite common now for people with our cars to have the main starter battery aged enough for it to not meet Volvos understandably conservative parameters to enable stop start. Changing the starter battery certainly fixed mine.

Fully recharge the big battery overnight using a suitable charger for agm, note it's state of charge before & after if you can with a meter, see if it works ok asap and also test the battery voltage when she's been sat up a few hours to see how fast it's discharging while idle.

I changed both batteries and the alternator. The issue is really not better. If I charge the big battery overnight it works ok until my daily milage drops then it don't.
If I drive to Edinburgh and back it starts to work again.
When I look into the "MY" system when it's not working it always says ,," charging battery"
I have been on this forum a relatively short time and this is a repetitive thread.
My opinion is, it's common. Save time , stress and money and live with it unless any warning messages appear.👍🏻

Common issue which generally always fixes usually after a full charge with a suitable charger.

Mine does exactly the same if its not used for a while.

Some might see the absent stop start as a bonus... 🙂

I`ve tried the overnight charge and monitor reset and it has worked for maybe 4 or 5 times but then I'm just back to square one again. maybe even a new battery wont be able to handle my mostly short journey (7 mile to work) week day driving!

I’d be very surprised if a 7 mile journey would be sufficient to give the battery time to become fully charged, brake lights, indicators, radio, heater/ aircon, and any number of hidden peripherals. The line does seem to be very fine as to the use of stop/start. To be very frank, I’d turn it off and stop worrying about it.

As a matter of interest, count the number of times you stop on your 7 mile journey go work. Even if it’s only 3/4 times at junctions or traffic lights, your expecting an awful lot from a battery.
