ECU swap…easily done??
Is swapping an ECU a simple plug and play task? I’m talking about a 1995 T5R here as I have the opportunity to purchase a remapped ECU, so do you just unhook the ECU after undoing the retaining “handle”?
Thanks in advance Mark |

I’ve read somewhere about security shear bolts, or is that just on V70’s (post ‘97 cars?)

Yes, there is a retaining/securing bracket that goes over the ECU housing - that is secured with a shear bolt. It is (usually) easily removed with some locking mole grips
You can buy another shear bolt, but most people just fit a normal bolt afterwards - the only 'downside' is that it is evident that someone has accessed the ECU housing - so if you have an accident the investigator will be tipped off that the ECU may have been remapped. So you'll need to make sure that you have notified your insurer before fitting the remapped ECU. NB I am in the same situation - I have a RICA mapped ECU which I will be fitting soon. I just want to finish my stage 0 prep before fitting it.

Thanks Rolling Thunder, likewise it’s something I intend to do once I’ve got the car to where I want it, just sanity checking what’s what with an ECU swap. I look forward to your write up
