I thought 3.9 was the highest numerical ratio available for a 240?

There should be a sticker on the axle tube that'll say the ratio, probably 3.73 or 3.89 most commonly.
It could be buried under some underseal so be really careful if you find it when scraping the muck off as it'll be brittle now and may try to disintegrate. I think 1030 is stock open diff from a 240. 1031 is Torslanda?.....I could be massively wrong on this. |

But most common is the 3,73 and I have seen some 3,91&3,53 passing by. For the requested short ratio/higher revs. you most probably end up searching for a diff from another vehicle which you can mount into the 1031. |
