A good question. Mine are way out and completely different both sides. I've been checking lots of pics and without giving measurements it looks to be about half a bage width from the side to the back edge of the wing and one whole badge width from the wing trim to the top of the badge. Crude but close I think. Someone with original wings and badges wanted!
I assume you're going to use pukka badge mounting tape? I wouldn't want to drill holes in that nice new paint.

I put my 121 badges back on with tape after the respray as most of the holes got filled up with filler and so on. I also didnt fancy re-drilling them. Tape holds them on probably better any way. These wouldnt be exact measurements but would be very close. Mine are 50mm from the back of the wing to the near side of the badge and 40mm from the bottom of the chrome trim to the top of the badge. Hope this helps.
Hugh.

As usual, I'll add to the confusion...

Mine are 25mm from the edge of the wing to the nearest edge of the badge and 35mm from the wing trim to the topmost part of the badge. I had a feel around the inside of the wing and it looks like mine are mounted on their mounting pins rather than taped.

Wau..
I may misread the tone since I'm not a native english speaker.. but I'm quite sure Derek meant his advise with the outmost best intent.
But OK - if you don't care - let the "Resto guys" drill 2 stupid (!) holes in your fresh and repainted wings - wich within a year or maybe two - will make your emblems sit fine and nice on top of a "flower" of rust under the paint....
Experiences from those who "been there, done that" is the purpose of knowledge-sharing I suppose.. Or?

If the Resto guys knows best - why then ask?

Oh.. BTW.. If you listen to Derek and dosen't drill but tape the emblems.. How many times are you then able to re-fit the emblems to the correct position?

Thanks for the advice classicvolvo the primary reason for the original question was to find near as possible the correct place for the badges to sit , if the resto guys choose to drill holes to mount them (assuming the pins are still there) then I know they will be putting paint on the fresh metal as they give a three year warranty on their work also because they do an excellent job and are not a quick blow over and done job . They also have to drill some holes in the doors to mount the door mirrors .

I understand - but why not take advise from those who have done and seen this 1000 times.. Holes in the wing live completely different lifes than holes in the door.
Do not drill holes you can do without. Cut off the badge-pins - and tape them on there.
No matter what warranty you get - why have to deal with a problem, if you can bypass it "cheaper" now?
Well, it's your car.. your decision.
