the 17.4 is the programe used to read the ECU you will also need the interface that goes with this which is the lead.

Hi Mike (or other kind soul)

Not sure if this is a question or a point of clarification, but...

Will the lead that you suggested, which comes with the shareware Vol-FCR 1.3 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-Diag...item2c5e9a50d5) also be useable for the Vol-FCR 17.4 (1.7.4?) or is it not compatible? I ask because the item description mentions that it 'Supports Volvo FCR version 1.3 or older'.

I have found a couple of potential options for the Serial/USB problem. I could drag an old desktop machine out to my car (plus monitor!), or have a serial-USB adapter, which may or may not allow me to use my laptop, depending upon which post I read!

Many thanks in advance

Bill

PS. Yesterday evening I tracked down a loose fitting in the boost controller pressure tapping on my 'Charge Air pipe' (L-shape which runs from the intercooler to the manifold via two rubber). I called Volvo for a quote for a new pipe... £210+VAT!!!! Epoxy repair now in place!

Hi Keith

I called by Slyfield last weekend as I was in Guildford. AH Autos are still there, but there wasn't anyone around on the Saturday. Next door to them was also 'SAS diesel specialists' (or similar name) who quoted 1.5 hours to do the timing. I thought I'd have an investigate with the VOL-FCR software first and try an few more things, but otherwise may head back there.

Thanks

Bill

you can see in this link that it says USB on the volfcr. the earlier version was serial only.

I'm convinced... Since i'm from near Keighley (but now living down south) it sounds like there's only one way to go!

Seriously, thanks for all your help and advice. Much appreciated.

Bill
