I also have about the same prob on my 850 2.5 tdi 1996
first I also thought there was no glow light but there is one and it is doing weard things check my fresh posted thread..
thanks the localisation of the relay i'll take a look tomorow

This is dredgin an Old post up I know but it does answer my own question in my Post about S80 & the location of the Glow Plug Light..

From Digging about & talking to Mike (Outnumbered) on the Phone this Morning it would appear that the "Diesel Pre Heat Message" does indeed show on the DIM (to the left of the Speedo) What it DOES NOT say is the "Pre Heat" is Temp Controlled i.e. it ONLY works when the Ambient Temp is BELOW 5 Degrees.

This However, throws up a very intriguing Question IF the Pre Heat only works at under 5 Degrees WHY if I leave the Ign in Pos 2 fer 20 Seconds does the car start BRILLIANTLY!!!!
