Default Steering wheel controls

Hi there,

May i first say hello as this is my first post. I am looking to do quite a few things to my volvo so you may see a few of my posts in the future, and hopefully i will learn a lot along the way and help out others !

I currently have a 2000 V70 XC (XC70) with a HU-850 head unit. The first thing i need is a replacement faceplate/cage to fit my new unit a:

Pioneer SPA-DA120 (the one with apple car play)

The big issue here is the steering wheel controlls, it is very important for me to keep them, both from a usability and a safety point of view. I have read a few threads on this matter however they are quite old and refer to older head units.

Help would be much apreciated and i am not really too fussed about cost.

Thanks guys

EDIT: Forgot to ask about a wiring harness too, and do you know if the head unit uses an external amplifier thanks guys !

I'm not sure about the XC series but my 07 S60 has an amp under the drivers seat. You might want one of these if you fit an after market stereo http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-S60-...item2ee443c9b6. Sorry i don't know about the other.

Hi Scg3000009

The easiest way I know to find out if you have an external amp is to look under the drivers seat, if you've got an OEM one, that's where it will be. Even if you have one, you may not want to use it. Some of the newer HUs have very good built in amps.

With your steering wheel controls you will need to look at the new HU to see what it needs, if it has a connection for a wired remote then you can get an interface that will read the signals required from the car and present them to the HU.

If it's a 2000 model, it will probably be an HU803 rather than HU850 as they didn't come in until '04/'05. I've just picked up a replacement '06 XC70 today which has a nice Pioneer double DIN unit it. While I wouldn't have chosen to fit this in place of the HU850 that was originally fitted, it does have navigation, Bluetooth (hands free and streaming) and DAB so it's got way more features than the original unit (which was also included with the sale).

I've also got a Pioneer in my camper van and for that I've installed the remote control kit that fits to the steering wheel. Not quite as slick as using the factory controls, but does channels, volume and call answer/hang up.

This may be another option to consider:

Thanks for the replies guys, MY apologies it is infact a HU803 and i really would like to keep the stock steering wheel controls.

as for the aplifier i will try and keep that issue off this thread actually as I feel it could be an entirely new source of headache.

Does anyone know how I can link my stereo properly into my cambus steering wheel controlls?

Default No Steering wheel controls with Pioneer DA120 on V70

I wish I had checked the forums first. I have a 2005 V70 T5 that had an BHU850 fitted but thinking it would be brilliant, I wanted an Carplay suitable radio. I bought a Pioneer DA120 and after it was fitted, the company told me that the parking sensors and steering wheel controls wouldn't work and I would have to take it in again - and pay - to have them fitted. I did this (A big company in Leicester) and then the rear parking sensors worked but no steering wheel controls. I then got in touch with InCarTec and they had a steering wheel unit that WOULD WORK and the sensors would work on the rear and most likely on the front. I went back to the original company and they took out the parts they put in and put the InCarTec parts in. Now no sensors at all and no steering wheel controls. They said it might be the Canbus (whatever that is). Have you any ideas how I can get the steering wheels and hopefully the sensors working again? Many thanks Paul
