Replaced the glow plugs on my Dad’s V70 yesterday.

On startup, especially as the colder weather has arrived, it used to rumble/shake. There were no lights on the dash, but I hooked up diagnostics and it said there was a fault with the cylinder 2 glow plug.

I replaced all 5 glow plugs, as there’s no record of whether they were done before. The old plugs were Bosch, so I replaced them with the same. Now it starts better.

I rebuilt my laptop from scratch the OS and reload Vida and at last got it all working using Edge browser in compatability mode. Also installed VDash and Forscan for the sacrifice car.

Default just bought 06 xc70

put in 900 CCA battery because the guy had a 615 in there when he sold me the car without the vent hose plugged in (battery inside back of trunk). Suppose to have 800 atleast for this car and should always be vented due to gases and pressure build. Was showing low power system voltage on scanner. Also, changed oil, filter, and engine filter.

Not today, but I sure have been busy!

Firstly, the rear wheel bearings were both making some nasty noises. So, I used the opportunity to replace the rear brakes (discs and pads). OEM SKF wheel bearings, ATE discs and Remsa pads. EPB was done the motor off-retract manually-motor on method. Easy peasy!

This was followed by the front axle, which actually was supposed to get new drive shaft boots (split close to the inner tie rods) and wheel bearings as a precaution as the right side brake was binding in the same spot, so before it was a warped hub, it should have been done - while I was at it, but as the lower ball joint didn't want to come undone (joint wouldn't budge), I assembled it all back together, installed new anti roll bar endlinks, new tie rod ends and brakes etc. - was nice knowing my 316 mm discs were the right type, as Volvo seems to have fitted different sizes with the D5... Being 17" rims, it could only be the 300 or 316 mm discs...

Again, discs are from ATE, pads from Remsa. Tie rod end and anti roll bar links are Lemförder. The wheel bearings were to be from SKF...

So, did all that, my steering wheel was on the ****. I called Volvo and asked if they would fit my parts, especially being OEM parts. Sure! And they included the required alignment and fitting of my new rims and tires (will have to wash my car yet before I can show them ) and did the boots and bearings. Was fun to test a new S60 for the day...

Anyhow, after all that, I wanted something inside to look nice. And the result: the automatic shifter looked tired. I wanted some bling and got myself the "chome and charcoal" version... And it turned out really nice!

Gave him a wash as it's basically now all fault free... Though I think I have found one more And the new rims and tires are on. Original Volvo Ixion III from the XC60 in 8x18" with 245/40 R18 (widest tires allowed on the V70) all season Continental AllSeasonContact (had them before, they're good!). Really love the way it came out. Now just needs to be lowered about 20 mm.

More stuff done today... Or better yesterday. Changed the upper engine mount, as a compared D5 didn't shift around so much. The mount had also colapsed by 10 mm. So obviously worn. Also the transmission mount was replaced, as that was also rather worn. The rubber diaphragm was full of fluid and also easy to move around, so definitely worth the change.

Treated my S80 to a wash, wax and dry. I haven't been able to do this for a while because its been raining literally every day. Nice and shiny now.

Default Number (Licence) Plate Light change over

Well, had this issue before on my previous D4, so when I got this car back in October and saw it had a diffy number plate light, I figured the bulb would be away or dirty contacts. If the boot had caught the lume then 9/10 both lights would be off.

I've never liked the OEM number plate lights, quite dull and not very bright. As per the previous XC70 I had, upgraded to LED and they are bright! Before fitting them, gave the light fitting recess a clean out, some WD-40 on the contacts and a light sanding down. The previous light fitting was quite corroded so perhaps a reason it failed due to a poor gasket.

Anyway, one small job done and onto the next!
