V70, new to me, bought on 29th.

Taxed this morning, though it still shows taxed from previous owner as he was going to post the V5 change of keeper. Probably never get to Swansea due to strikes.

Washed it, found a wee rust spot top of windscreen and a wee dent on rear door which I hadn't noticed under the general layer of road dirt. Nowt to worry about there.

Looked under bonnet, can't fin d a dipstick - oh no, not another car I can't visually check the oil!

One of the two "blippers" doesn't work, guess it's battery...

Picked up my Jap import 2009 V70 2.5T a few weeks ago and since then been deep cleaning the paintwork and trim. It is black sapphire metallic.

Had finished waxing with Zymol Titanium but not too happy with the roof and bonnet.

So gave them a good going over with Maguires Compound and then with Auto Glym super resin polish. Will let that cure overnight and then Zymol wax them tomorrow. Hard work but already looking better.

I also had to replace the n/s door mirror as the motor was not working. I got a new unit from the dealer and a new cover. What a job. I was not prepared for the amount of dismantling needed to get parts off the old one to the new one. Then I found the new cover had marks so need to get that replaced. It also looks the wrong colour. Looks plain black and not metallic.

I was going to change the engine oil but there is a big panel under the engine and it is not a job to do lying under the car. It can get done when it goes to the dealer for belts, coolant and brake fluid changes.

Time to rest my aching back.

As a long-term member you're probably already familiar with the leaky windscreen feature on some models. Might be worth having a close look at that windscreen rust spot, and windscreen sealing in general just in case?

The blipper battery replacement procedure is covered on page 44 of the handbook - well, my handbook anyway.

Hope you enjoy the new car - it's always exciting to poke around and find new features! Our V70 is utterly filthy at the moment - wet roads, wet tracks, wet clothing and wet dog. Oh for a sunny day to spend cleaning it.

I was replacing the near side door panel after changing the door mirror and clumsily dislodged the lock-unlock rod that pokes up from the top of the door panel. I gave up trying to fix it so looked on YouTube.

I found a video clip and it was quite an involved procedure so I decided not to bother. Afterall, those rods have no real purpose anymore as there are door switched to lock and unlock doors.

OK, I give in, how do I check the oil level?
Can't find a dipstick (other than me) and the electronic version is a mystery.
Transponder/key thing into dash; press start until everything lights up; twiddle the twiddle wheel - I get mileage/fuel/etc but no oil level option.

Have fed the leather this afternoon, will have to wait for the shops to open for a battery.

I don't have the second circular "dial".
Single dial in the centre and then gear select thing to the right and similar one to the left for fuel.

Not today, but Friday, and by my local spannerman. All glowplugs replaced with new NGK ones. The old ones were Bosch. Car is on just under 120k, no idea if they have been replaced before. Just need some frosty weather now to see if it's overcome the lumpy start.
