Three SIM
Hello,
I have Three home broadband which I no longer use but have 6 months left on the contract. I have tried the sim in my Volvo and it connects ok but I can't get the internet to work. It could be that The Three homefi sim is not compatible or there is some thing I'm doing wrong or setting I'm missing. Just wondered if anyone else has had any experience with this situation. Cheers |

Have you inserted it into the modem the right way around? My modem is in my boot. Have you activated the setting in the senses? The other thing is, and someone correct me if I’m wrong, the sim has to be a data only sim. Not phone and texts. |

Depends on what you have set in the communications setting in Sensus, have you ticked the wifi box and selected the 3 sim as the wifi, the manual gives instructions on connecting wifi.

Thanks for the responses,
Yes its inserted correctly Full size Sim and is a data only sim, but the home internet sim which may be the problem just took it out of the Huawei B535 and put it in the back of the XC90. Yes I have selected the wifi The car does detect it and gives no indication of it not working it even says it has used a small amount of data but the internet doesn't work. |

Try conecting it via the Huawei, same setup but select Huawei as the wifi. I use my Huawei that way in my car sometimes.

Oh, my Huawei is a portable one. I am checking my settings in car. With Sim in car modem. Settings/communications/car modem internet/box ticked in car modem internet, network operator 3, mobile data, box ticked to automatically detect. I also have car wifi hotspot box ticked.
(I do not have the first wifi box ticked for connect car to mobile hotspot as that will not allow modem to work)

OK cheers thanks for checking.
I would guess its not compatible for some reason, the only setting that I can see that could mean something is the APN and password but looking on the net that seems they should be blank. Cheers |

Could be wrong, but I seem to remember having to turn off Internet as one of the mobile phone connections before the SIM in the car started working. Can you check that on Sensus?
There's a separate option somewhere in communications settings under mobile phone - you can also select things like Phone calls, SMS and music streaming on that same page (I think - going from memory) It's just a list of all the things it uses when your phone's connected. I'm sure one of them was internet. If the car's trying to pick up internet over bluetooth, it'll ignore the data SIM.

I had this issue on my XC60 and it turned out that the on board modem was faulty. I seem to recall that quite a few people here use the 3 SIM and it works fine - I have one myself.
It's probably worth trying a few SIMs out of your phones and seeing if one works. The 3 SIM card has little push-out pieces so that you can use it as various sized SIMs, you can use this as a holder if your phones have nano-SIMs.
