Electronic / Manual Boost Control
I've been running an MBC with fred's chip for a while now which I borrowed off a friend who has been looking for a new car to modify, and I'm giving him the stuff back now he has one. So i'm looking to buy the chip's and boost controller again and thought it would be cool to be able to adjust the boost pressure from the cabin. So my question is, would I be able to do one of the following...run pipes to a dash mounted boost controller like this...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-BOOST-CONT...ht_1262wt_1141 or is it possible to attach an electronic boost controller like this... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ht_1043wt_1141 I understand these are usually controlled by the ecu but would I be able to wire it to a 2 way switch to move it one way or the other permanently? I guess to run pipes to a manual controller in the cabin would cause laggy/inaccurate boost pressure? Any thoughts much appreciated! |

You could fit an MBC in the cabin although it is not recommended as the long pipe runs could lead to boost spikes.
Hallman make an adapter for their MBCs that uses an extension cable to mount the adjuster in the cabin while leaving the MBC in the engine bay. The boost solenoid would need an electronic boost controller to work, like the Volvo turbo+ or an aftermarket EBC. On it's own it wouldn't work.

chips
I put in TLAO (on Turbobricks) chips in last month in my 1997 945.Been impressed with the results so far. Fred's chips recommend running super unleaded I believe. I'm running 12 PSI atm.

I've fitted an uprated wastegate actuator and set it to about 10psi. I've also got a bleed valve plumbed in that is fitted in the car. With this nearly fully open I get about 13-14psi.
I haven't noticed any spikes as such but have a half decent boost gauge fitted which I have kept an eye on whilst trying various ways of creating the most boost. 3rd gear with foot hard down seems one of the best ways to see a maximum. I fitted the bleed so I could wind the boost down, I've never done it though. |

Yeah it's a good point, the best advantage of adjusting from inside the car would be setting it, but once thats done it's done. My Idea was to run it on low boost so save my engine and petrol, but to be honest I'd miss the power too much and have it turned up all the time anyway, only an idea!
