Question 1994 Volvo 960 est. 3.0L Cam belt change

Hello ,.im new to this forum,.I am replacing the timing belt on a 1994 960 3.0L
i have seen the routine on autodata disc,..but am a bit confused as ,to the timing marks ? theres no marks on the cam sprockets(i.e lines),.just a white paint mark on each,..am i to assume these are the manufacturers marks ?,also the Crank sprocket, i can see the raised mark on front case, but nothing on the belt sprocket itself,..i did notice a raised line on the flywheel hub,..but when removing No1 plug and placing a rod down the bore, with the hub line and case mark alignied, the piston is not @ TDC ?,..i know some cars have the cam timing set at below/after TDC,..would this be the case with this vehicle ?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, heres hoping! lol
Many Thanks in advance Mick

Hi,

Have a look at the info in the FAQ:
FAQ: B6xxx timing belt change...

You might also want to consider the tensioner and change that too.
Have a look/check of the water pump as well.

The mark on the crank pulley is NOT TDC it is a timing mark where the pistons are all down the bore so that you can turn the camshafts to the correct location , there will be a fine scribed mark near the edge of the pulleys ...

I have hopefully uploaded the Timing Diagram for the 3.0L 960 Engine. i Hope this helps? I would consider putting timing belt on and doing a compression check. If all are ok/similar values you'll have got away with it if not then it's the cylinder head off i'm afraid
