Default Gearbox specialist within reasonable distance of Berkshire??

Has anyone had a very positive experience using one recently?

I believe mine has the Aisin Warner TF-80SC 6-speed Geartronic. I've done my best with regular fluid changes, but with 207,000 miles it's probably inevitable that it will act up at some point in very near future. SIGH.

In the past, I've had to call it quits with most cars as a result of autobox issues.
Not knowing a really reputable and trustworthy gearbox specialist who can repair rather than replace would be the #1 reason for that.

It's difficult to justify £5000 to put a new autobox into a 10-year old car.

That said, the repairs have to be genuinely good. Otherwise, what's the point of a £1000 repair-job that lasts for a year or two? Just adding more pain into the soup.

This transmission has been used on several other vehicles, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AWTF-80_SC

Of course, sourcing a used one is always a gambling, more so knowing this transmission was fragile with high miles on it.

As for repair, I would forget about it. The 5 speed Aisin could get with some refurbishment if caught early, but for the 6 speed one I'm yet to have heard of someone offering to refurbish it. Not to mention places selling 'refurbished' transmissions which are all but properly refurbished (main Dealer included)

I had mine rebuilt a couple of years back here at JT Automatics near Dartford. Mine's a 6 speed on a 2006 XC70. They offer a 2 year guarantee which is longer than everywhere else I found. The car has been spot on ever since and I reckon the box should now last for the remaining life of the vehicle and make it a lot easier to sell.
