Hi all
We know that the original spec coolant for a redblock is blue/green ethylene glycol-based with silicate inhibitor - such as the Volvo stuff or Comma Xstream G48 which is apparently the same BASF product (and there'll be other brands selling this same BASF stuff). But - does anyone use orange/pink OAT coolant in a redblock? It lasts longer, is a bit cheaper, and apparently is a bit less toxic than the blue stuff. OAT does not use a silicate-based inhibitor, but er 'organic acids'. Is there a reason why redblock engines should stick to the blue IAT/silicate-based coolants? From what I can see online, OAT coolants can be used with mixed-metal coolant systems such as iron, aluminum, plastic, rubber etc - so I can't see a problem there. The other question if I swapped over to OAT is - how thorough does the flush have to be, because they say the two coolants types can react. I am changing the radiator, so this is an opportunity to swap coolant types - if this is a worthwhile change to make. Thanks Jim |
