Smile Interior cabin light

For some time now when I have the rockers switched on towards the rear position, so that the lights come on automatically when you open the doors and go out when you start the engine (or is it go out when the ignition goes on, can't remember!), the big light in the middle doesn't come on unless I apply a bit of extra pressure to the rocker switch with a finger and hold it there, as soon as you take off the pressure it goes out again. With the rockers switched on in the opposite direction everything works as it should.

How do I make the rocker switch work as it should again please? Will there be a layer of dirt stopping a connection or something which needs tightening to make the right connection again?

That's a strange one Ellie - i'd suggest removing the bulb and exercising the switch vigorously in all positions then replace the bulb. If that doesn't sort it, if you can remove the interior light unit and find the switches inside it then treat them to some contact cleaner and exercise the switch again that might cure it.

Also check the plug that connects to the lamp, it sounds unconnected but the pressure on the switch might be enough movement to add extra pressure on the multiplug contacts restoring power to the lamp.

There are some pictures here that will show you what you're dealing with. The unit is surprisingly complicated inside, but some of that will be the cabin temperature sensor which is nothing to do with the lighting circuit.

The switches in car lights tend to be fairly basic so if you can get access cleaning/bending the contacts will probably help.

If you remove it, you will see metal contacts, should be reasonably self explanatory as to which needs a tweek.
