Hi Roy, really stunning xc90 you have there. I'm particularly impressed with the incredible Williams paint finish which looks awesome, may I ask if this was very expensive and how long it took them to do the entire process?

Good luck with the sale, I think your cars worth every penny.

Thanks,
Alan

Hi Alan.

It cost £1000 but that included painting the callipers and discs (not the braking surface) and machine polishing the car. Mark said it was the hardest paint he'd ever come across. "Like polishing concrete" was his description. Took him longer than he expected so he had it for three and a half days in the end. rather than the two he originally thought. Great in the rain. It gets cleaner by itself.

All the best.

Roy

Default Now Sold

Thanks to all the advice and interest everyone and the XC90 is now sold. Feel really sad and missing it but I feel it's gone to a good home, so at least that's good.

Roy

Thumbs up

It's a beauty. You've looked after it so well that it still looks virtually brand new.

I'll do my best to keep up your hard work and keep it as pristine as you have.

Thanks for selling it to me. I know you agonised over it but think you made the right decision in the end

Thanks Jon

Here is the tyre thread for your info. This is to the last page. I'd suggest reading it in reverse as the tech changes and it has been running a long long time. I have many posts in it. Many views in it as well.

I've always run all my Volvos on the eco pressure settings. 39 psi all round.

All the best.

One thing I'd like your opinion on Jon is does my/your XC90 have a delay on acceleration? Lots of people here have said mine must have as they all do. I have always contested this and I have never detected anything you would not expect from two and a half tons of car accelerating.

Pleased you got 40 mpg from it on the way home despite the freezing weather conditions.

All the best.

Roy

Thanks for the info on the tyres Roy. Some bedtime reading for me 😀

I've not noticed any delay in the power delivery, no. Obviously there's the kick down delay when really putting your foot down. Seems as quick as you would expect for a big diesel car.

MPG is still going well. After three days back and to to work in rush hour traffic it's still at 39 mpg. I would imagine it'll drop a little further but extremely pleased considering the size of the car.

Yes it responds better to a controlled smooth quick pressure on the accelerator rather than just pushing the accelerator straight onto the floor. Volvo say they never want the car to get into a situation where it loses traction as that can make the car difficult to control. The D5 engine develops massive torque even at very low revs.

The auto gearbox also responds better if you don't jab the leaver straight through the gears when stationary like my daughter used to. Just a fraction of a second in each position so it has time to work out where it is. She never learnt drive having to double declutch though.

The gearbox manual change is not strictly speaking manual as all it does is allow you to override the computer and instruct the computer to change now. It won't allow you to do anything that would damage the engine or gearbox anyway whatever you do. The manual shift is useful if you want to raise the revs to improve gearbox cooling when towing up steep gradients or a higher bottom gear to reduce torque for pulling away in the snow.
