This is a marketing ploy, nothing more and will have little effect on safety. Yes, I object to it because it's another reason for the morons to evade their responsibility for their actions. Duh, it's limited enit, how was I speeding. Paul. |

Of course they could do what the Japanese have done on cars in their markets for years Limit them to 112mph but gear them so they got there a lot quicker.
I'm sure mine is already limited to 130mph it's in the manual somewhere. Why 112 though ? I'm allowed to exceed it on sections of the Autobahn in Germany ( I got to 120 earlier this year) Maybe a better option would be to enforce limits to speed in built up areas, which would be fairly simple to achieve with GPS etc. although I wouldn't agree to a hard stop at the speeds as that could prove dangerous.

I can see the logic. I’ve had my XC60 at 130mph briefly on the German Autobahn. Interesting, you need to concentrate, and the fuel consumption is obviously terrible. I would say - on the Autobahns - 100-110mph is actually fast enough if you need to make rapid progress, but traffic conditions don’t often allow this. As for the UK, I just wish we had some ‘out of hours’ flexibility in the speed limit. Driving at 70mph on a deserted M6 in Cumbria at dead of night is just so boring to the point of almost making you feel sleepy. Now that’s another point for discussion.

I've checked and 112mph is 180kmh. I presume the kmh figure was leading this and that is a nice round number.
No issue for us in the UK, you shouldn't be near 3 figures at any stage even if it is to escape an accident I would suggest. The Germans might not like it but then they may not buy Swedish anyway so they may say so what? As someone has already said, a bit of marketing.

Seriously, I mean, ok they're taking one more step towards the 'nanny' state where individual freedom of action is curtailed but we're not far from the big brother using GPS to both monitor and control the speed we drive at (not to mention using the data to tax us) but more importantly perhaps is who really needs to drive at more than 180kph anyway? I mean, really?

But more out of curiosity than need. I'd say that nobody NEEDS to drive that fast. But quite often there is actual need to "jump" to lets say 5-10 mph over the limit, for a very very short moment(think 100-200 metres). It may be to avoid some irratic driver, it may be to avoid accident.. So a "hard" limiter in my opinion would bring more grief than good.

Yeh I usually stick to the speed limit or I drive quite slow so I dont see how this would affect me really nor should anyone be really driving our UK roads at that speed.
Our country is filled with people who have no actual care abou driving causing anything from lane hogging to just pulling out randomly with the thought process of its the persons behinds problem or I will claim .... its too dangerous to be flying around. As for Germany I never really see many Volvo's driving around obviously but I guess this would put the Germans off more really, but I got to say being able to take you car right up there defenitly gets you places quicker ... but also spending more at the pump.
