Unhappy RTI DVD problem

I drive a 2002 V70 with a Volvo RTI navigation system. It still has the original navigation DVD so I thought it was time for an update. I bought the latest 3-DVD set (year 2005, week 48) from ebay new.

It just arrived today shrink sealed so it has never been opened. However, when I insert any of the DVDs I get the message “DVD cannot be read”.

I’m I doing something wrong. Do I have to do something in addition to just inserting the DVD?

It should have come with a CD to update the RTI software. Whether this has to be done before using the DVD's I would doubt. Check you can read the DVD's on your PC?

Thanks for the info Paul. I did try the new DVDs in my computer and it read them OK. So I contacted my local Volvo dealer. A guy there told me that loading new DVDs is a known problem. He told me that sometimes you have to put the disk in several times before the system accepts it.

So that’s what I did. On about the fifth or sixth attempt of inserting and reinserting the disk with the same “Cannot read disk” error message on screen, I eventually got the message “Loading new software”. Thank God! I’ve tried it out and it seems to be working OK.
