Default V40 - Insert Key message - head scratcher

Hi all,

My wife is having problems with her 2014 auto D3 V40.
She got in the other morning and inserted the key fob but when she pressed start the message 'insert key' comes up in the message are in the centre of the speedo... both fobs are the same. both fobs had new batteries put in and the doors locked/unlocked fine, radio/infotainment works ok. Just the ignition doesn't turn on. also disconnected the battery for an hour but made no difference.

RAC came and said as he couldn't get the ignition on he couldn't really delve into the codes etc... and because of how its parked nose first up to a hedge on pebbles they cant recover it unless i can move it.. He reckoned its probably a fault with the key reader rather than a fob problem as neither work.

Has anyone got any suggestions what it could be? looks like its going to be an autolock technician visit unless i can get it moved using jacks as the steering lock is on.

Thanks in advance for any advice
