Congratulations with your purchase. They are great cars! We have 2! You might want to consider changing the timing belts - they are due to be changed at 80k. The 70k service is quite a small one (oil change & drain fuel etc). Think the air filter gets changed at 60k, so depending when it was last serviced it might be worth checking.Hope this if some help.

Hi, I've got a V70 Tdi they're great however there is one flaw - timing belts!!!
Particularly on th e850 they have a habbit of snapping way before the scheduled service. In fact it is the tensioner that siezes up and takes out the belt. Mine I am told was replaced at 30K under warranty. As it was knackered.
A company I've known for a very long time (C.P Motors Tamworth - a good reliable Volvo Specialist recommends between 30-40K for the belts as he has replaced numerous tdi engines)01932 232950).
If the belt breaks, They blow up spectacularly.
One final thing YOU MUST FIT ONLY VOLVO PARTS OR GATES BELTS none other. The other makes don't come close for longevity.
You can Get genuine Volvo parts from Nordic Car Company with about 40% off (Tel 01932 232950)
Hope this is of some help

Cheers Andy

I take it that is the reason why the service sheet makes a point about checking and adjusting the belt at every service then (but only on the TDi).

PS

I have just seen a post from a V70 TDi owner on usenet wondering if he should change his belt at 95,000 miles. He says he was going to do it 105k miles.

She canna take it captain, she's gonna blow.

HI, I'm also new to this forum, but Volvo owner for 17 years doing own maintenance. I'm currently looking for a V70 tdi so did some research. Was told by a main dealer (MRG, Chippenham) that the Audi 2.5 tdi engine has a water pump issue i.e. it can seize thus stripping the cambelt and bye bye engine! This was confirmed by another owner who was selling. So if the history doesn't mention pump replacement, you should consider this. Regards.

The timing belt & ball joints etc will be changed this week.

VW/Audi/porsche/Volvo specialist advises that the water pumps weep small amounts initally - this is easy spot - then change water pump.

also i've just got a new job and will most likely have to sell the car - only had it 4 weeks......

what would a reasonable selling price be? - the ones i've seen in auto trader vary significantly!!!
can any one advise on pricing this to sell??

spec;
1996 P 2.5TDi estate, red, tax & mot(2004), SH to 30k ( the rest of the service sheets may be missing - not sure)
e/w, e/m, cruise control, T5 alloys, load cover, 70K Volvo service just done, t/belts etc will be done. 45mpg

whats it worth???? if i have to sell it, i'll post in the for sale forum - i'm awaiting info on company car / car allowance scheme before i'm forced to sell!

thanks in advance!!
