Thumbs up '86 on Rear lights restoration

Hello everybody!

I've been doing lots stuff at mine in the last months, among others rear lights restoration.

Here are the steps to take, in brief:

- take each one off your car (first take off the black plastic cover in the trunk, then unscrew each bulbholder, also unscrew each of the 4 nuts that holds in place the rear light and the "earth" connection)
- once freed from the car, take away the printed circuit and rubber seal
- give each part a good clean
- take out the rectangular transparent plastic cover of the reverse lights (*by hand) and also clean it (especially the bonding compound round its edge) - this is their "fault"
- let everything dry
- re glue the cover of the reverse lights with either universal transparent silicone or a strong bonding compound that also seals to prevent water and dust particles to enter in the rear cluster
- let it dry
- if the chromed strip outside the cluster is damaged replace it with one that is easily found on the market with double sided tape on the rear and stick it in place
- give the copper contacts a good clean - where the bulb covers sit - I used a 800 sanding paper
- reconnect all parts back together (if necessary fit new bulbs) and put them back on your car and there they go with a test to make sure everything works!

Here's a pic once finished

Cheers,

V.
