'90 240 DL Cranks but doesn't start
Both fuel pumps are running and I have spark, but the injectors are not pulsing. I can't find anything on the net that mentions the injectors not functioning.
Also, both pumps run constantly with the key on, but I have read that they're only supposed to pressurize the system then shut off. This is not a new symptom, it's been like this since I bought the car. It never made any sense why Volvo would run the pumps even when they were not needed. Please help me, it's getting really cold on the motorcycle. |

Possibilities:
Crank position sensor and/or its wiring faulty No power to injectors - check at injector should have 12V after switching ignition on. Trace back if not there. Loss of earth Faulty ecu Hope this is of some help. Let us know how you get on. Mike

RE: '90 240 DL Cranks but doesn't start
I tested the crank position sensor yesterday and it was within spec. Also, the injectors have 12v but are not receiving the negative pulse signal. I'm starting to think that it is the ecu because nothing else seems to be wrong. I wish someone I knew had one so I could swap it.
I printed out a bunch of different tests off of Alldata today, so hopefully that will help. Thanks, Dustin |

RE: '90 240 DL Cranks but doesn't start
Yes the pumps only should come on for 2 to 3 seconds and due to nosignal from the Ingition ECU the fuel pump relay should shut them down due to a signal from pin 20 Bl-GN. It sounds like someone has been at it or the fuel pump relay is faulty. However assuming you have a power feed to the injectors then you should see a 2.5ms negative pulse on pin 18 of the Fueling ECU and at the Injectors. Take poper off the car and remove inspect and reseat the ECU connector ant dry again. Come back with findings and that version of Jetronic have you got 2.2 2.4 3.1 and what Bosch number is on the Fueling and Ignition ECU's and where you live. Regards Peter

Ignition ECU: 0-280-000-561
Injection ECU: 0-227-400-169 I cannot find anything on the car that tells what version of Jetronic it is equipped with. I live in the U.S. I'm not real sure what you mean by poper. If you mean the ECU connector, I've already had it apart and it is not wet at all. I do not really have any symptoms that others have had. That is why this is so frustrating. I'm going to speak with the previous owner and ask them if they ever had the fuel or electrical systems repaired. Hopefully they can lead me in the right direction. |
