I too am a relatively new owner, and when I was Volvo hunting I settled for a Purple 7seater 2.3lpt auto.

I wasn't looking for a 7 seater, or an auto, but it kinda felt right

I have no regrets, the lpt has a manual boost controller and a gauge fitted ( cost about £60 ) and it's a whole new driving experience.

Sure, it wallows about a bit, and it's not something I would chuck into a corner as it would never make it out ( I'm used to FWD ) but if I attended the bushes etc I'm sure it would improve.

All in all I'm happy with the Volvo, the turning circle is a joy, the ride is comfy, the seats are soft and the boot space is enough to fit a mattress in without moving the front seats forward, I would say it too low to fit two bikes in though as compared to a modern car the Volvo has a low roof. However the roof space is massive and a decent rack will easily carry whatever you want to put up there.

As for economy, well I didn't buy it for that, I bought it because I liked it...

Also, as with all cars, the support of a forum is invaluable.

Oh, and the slowest car I ever owned was my Morris Marina, it was mega reliable but not easy to keep up with my mates in their more modern Astra's and Fiestas...

You'd be surprised just how well Volvos grip through the corners, even if you "accidentally" chuck it into a corner that is tighter than you thought.
Yes, the body roll is a bit worrying but it still grips and you get out alive.

I think the slowest car i've ever owned was a Mk2 Escrot van (so named because it was rotten) that struggled to 45mph downhill with the wind behind it. Fuel consumption was horrendous too, about 12mpg and needed ear defenders to drive above 35mph because the engine was so loud!

I still managed to overtake a 72 plate Kia on my maiden voyage with it, and left someone far behind going up Blagdon Hill https://climbfinder.com/en/climbs/bl...l-honiton-road with it last weekend mind.

Perhaps smacking all 4 intake valves knocked some sense into it
Was the Kia stationary ?

Yeah avoid the non turbos, life's too short.😂

Here's one just come up on the 700 900 owners group, if you're into modded ones:

Pains me to do it but due to a change of circumstances.
My volvo 940 se turbo. 235bhp at 10psi
Full spec list added in the photos.
Owner this car for 2 years, all work has been carried out by myself. Car comes with full service history, including original sales receipt
Still needs a new little tweets as there's a slight vibration through the car, and could do with the brakes changing.
If not much interest then I'll break for parts
£3000

Took the plunge! Now own a 2.3 HPT 940. Had a brilliant 6 minutes with it. Then filled it up with fuel and the starter motor **** itself.... Wonderful!
The seller is putting it rite for me and hopefully will have it back before the weekend. Not a great start to the infamous Volvo reliability..... Gutted

Congrats on your purchase, annoying about the starter motor but at least it happened before you got somewhere you couldn't easily get home from!

Well it did happen 150 miles away from my house so had to get a lift back with buddy who have me the lift!
Seller seemed totally genuine though! He's got it running already and is gonna make sure she's good to go before the return trip.

That's not a common story at all. My starter makes the weirdest noises. Never ever ever not started. And my car has 515000km currently.

Volvo reliability is real. You just got slightly unlucky there. I'm sure you gonna build great memories inside your machine.
