She's back now! Starts every time and is bliss to drive. It does have one small kinda annoying problem. It idles fine on start up but after it's been driven a while, if I go back into park or neutral, it will idle at 2k. If I switch it off and start it again, it goes back to a nice idle speed....

Any ideas?

It's an anomaly of the Bosch LH2.4 EFi system, usually it indicates a speed sensor failure but i assume your speedo is working?

Sometimes it can help to clean out the EICV and throttle body and also check the adjustment of the TPS - someone may have fiddled with the throttle butterfly position, trying to get an idle problem sorted in the past. It may be the TPS is now out of adjustment as a result which means the ECU won't go into the idle map when it should do.

It may settle with time, i'm guessing the battery was disconnected to change the starter so the ECU may be relearning fuel trims etc - this would be hampered if the throttle butterfly isn't where it should be at idle and/or the TPS is out of adjustment.

They can sometimes idle a little high after driving for a while and coming to a stop and mine sometimes does it, but only at about 1k for a very short period and then settles to standard 750rpm.
Does it drop down if you sit or stay at 2k as that seems very high ?

Yeah just jumps up to 2k and sits at it. Off and on seems.to fix it. It doesn't do it every time, I got to work today with it being fine.

I'd give it a few days to see if it settles as i'm guessing it didn't do it on the test drive. Chances are, like i said above, the battery was disconnected during starter replacement and the ECU is now relearning everything.

Sorry man I did see your message but forgot to reply! Hopefully your rite. It makes sense. I'll keep you updated if it goes away or not!
It seems to happen after it's been kicked down for a little while....?

That would be right, it's looking for a speed signal to reduce the idle speed after being on boost, it won't just drop the idle speed as it might drop it too low.
It's a long, complicated thing on how it works it out and i can't remember it all now (was ~30 years ago i did the LH course) but it should sort itself out unless one of the things i mentioned further up have happened - or there's a fault with the ECU.

Some people that have fitted turbo engines into 360s have this problem as the 360 didn't have a speed sensor like the 7/9xx models do. Most just live with it but you can probably find a fix for yours.

Nobody has found a solution to the 2k idle thing. The idle valve/speed is controlled by a separate ECU that interfaces with LH.

You can **** it off and bypass it, then you have rock steady idle, but not recommended with autos.
