Default 2006 S40 door speakers

Hi folks,

I need to replace right hand side door speakers, fron and back.

The system is the 'High Performance Sound' option.

I've got the front door card off but there's no serial numbers evident.

Also, I can't see how to remove the speaker!

Any ideas ?!

There should be 3 rivets holding the speaker in. You’ll have to drill them out to remove it.

If you don’t want to rivet the new speaker back in, you might be able to figure out a way of screwing it in, like the last poster on this page: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=103393

Sticker with part number should be on the back of the speaker.

Thanks for that.

I'm amazed that they're riveted in. That seems pretty crazy to me

Take the opportunity to upgrade the speakers by fitting audiophile-quality ones. You can squeeze 6" ones in with a struggle.

Just fit a pair to the front doors and disconnect the rears. The sound stage will improve hugely.

Finish the job off by fitting sound-deadening material inside the front doors.
(I use Skinz for this, you could also try Dynamat.)

Music is too important to listen to it on inferior equipment !

Is the factory head unit of decent quality?

By decent, I suppose I mean able to power a pair of Hertz Energy 165mm component speakers in the front doors and a 10" active subwoofer?

The quality of the factory head unit is OK for sound reproduction but you will make a huge improvement by adding an amplifier to drive the Hertz speakers and a sub-woofer.

Use a 4 channel amp. 2 channels to drive the front speakers and 2 channels bridged to mono to drive the sub.

Forget about changing the headunit.

The problems involved in upgrading the headunit means that it would make more sense (and probably cheaper) to change the car !

ps Hertz speakers = good choice !

pps Just realized that you were considering an active sub. in which case a 2 ch. amp would be all that's required.

Default 2006 V50 door speakers

Hi, hope someone can help me with serial numbers etc on tweeter from front door of 2006 V50 High Performance Sound system. Tweeter is dead, so I need to replace. Have found identical tweeter except some digits etc are different. Does this matter? Original is shown in the photo, the one I've found lacks the JPNMG and the serial no. is 30752086. 5W33 is a batch number perhaps? I know just enough to know there are devils in these details and car audio is complex. Many thanks in advance.
