Clunking
Would the clunking be continuous or start with very occasional metallic clunks that sound like a supermarket trolley separator falling open?
Am asking as I have experienced this very sporadic noise albeit it could be coming from items falling against the metal dog guard. |

Just had this on my 69 plate T8, 36,500 miles. I was originally told 50% contribution which I rejected, they came back with 60% which I've also rejected. Just got off the phone to Volvo who have raised a complaint, which "will take around 8 weeks to determine, the outcome will be final".
Seems ridiculous for such an expensive car considering how common a fault it is. |

Forgot to say, they obviously have no idea of lead time on the parts.

Can you but a Volvo extended warranty at any time, or do they say 'it's a pre-existing condition' like they do with pet insurance , if your ERAD is suspect but the Volvo garage hasn't seen it yet ?
I'd be buying one now if I had a T8. |

ERAD Failure
I too have fallen foul of the dreaded ERAD Issue on the T8 (Large bang from the ERAD). It is a 2016 model and obviously well out of warrenty. The dealer I used for servicing said there is nothing they can do about the 6.5k fee they quoted to resolve the issue, and that I should try to speak with Volvo Ireland directly to see what they can do. The problem is that the car was imported from the UK. I have 3 questions that I'm hoping to get help with:
- Has anyone had success getting support from Volvo Ireland or Volvo UK for ERAD repairs with a car this old? If so, what is the best way to approach them? - There is an opportunity to buy a complete second hand ERAD from a 2021 car for a fraction of the cost above. Has anyone replaced the unit themselves, without going through a Volvo main dealer? - I understand that there is a newer ERAD model shipped from 2021 onwards. Can anyone tell me what the part number is for the newer model and is it compatible with my 2016 model? Thanks in advance! Happy to listen to any other suggestions. |
