Strange.

I shall make sacrifices to the gods of ABS and keep my fingers crossed for both of us.

Default Anti Skid Service + dodgy electrics

I've had my 2010 S40 1.6d drive since new & done 92,000 miles, and I got the dreaded Anti Skid Service message on my dash yesterday (15/09/14) whilst driving home. Then a good portion of my car electrics started going haywire. No steering wheel controls worked (for stereo & cruise control), no indicators, no full beam, wipers permanently on, windows going up & down by themselves, then the dash warning triangle turned from orange to red, but I coudn't read any messages as the stalk controls weren't working either. Tried the car this morning and everything was gone and working fine, then I drove 10 yards and it all started again. Anyone any ideas what may be going on? Is it time to get that BMW 520d that's been winking at me as I drive past the dealership?

Try getting your alternator checked. That sounds like the sort of thing which happens when your car doesn't have enough electrical power.

My "ABS/Anti-skid service required" warning just came on the other day after changing my front nearside wheel bearing. Have stripped everything down AGAIN and still showing. I read on the forum, somewhere, that if non-Volvo parts are used this can cause the warning message to appear. Is this true? If so, how do you remove it?

I m looking into buying a used V50 from 2005 1.8 petrol, but the dealer says it has this ASSR message displayed which is putting me off, just wondering would it be worth buying the car because of this hassle?

All I m worried about is that this is going to cost me a lot for repair and if there are other problems that goes with it too.

I have read that Volvo are taking 50% of the price of fixing this but would this give the 50% discount to Labour or just the part itself?

I really like the V50 but all these issues are quite off putting to me

Any advise would be good!
