When I fitted a Blaupunkt Ontario head unit to The Volvo when I first bought it (it came without one, although someone had gone to the trouble of fitting an ISO connector to the wiring loom), I sourced my adaptor panel from a chap on eBay for a fiver. Much cheaper than Halfords and it was delivered faster than they could have managed, due to it being an order-in only item. Six years and two stereos later (currently a Blaupunkt Boston), here it is:

Surely for a standard headunit the local scrappy would be the best bet?

Or try somewhere like Salvo or Braydon Motor Company for one, as it will be sold working and will be guaranteed for a while. Some of the standard-fit head units in later 740s and 940s were very nice and often came with CD autochangers

Yeah, the ones with the graphical equaliser are pretty impressive for a stock radio.

There is a forum member called the_traveller, he should have one plus the equaliser lying around if he hasn't sold it.

I have a spare graphic eq. that I bought from ebay a few years back. I'm keeping it because I'm thinking about putting my old CR-4021 radio back in the car one day. I don't know if they can be used together but the connector seems to fit, though I haven't checked the wiring diagram. Although the modern CD player is nicer to listen to, plays CDs, and isn't susceptible to alternator/ignition noise, it just doesn't fit in with the character of the car and the fascia adapter is ugly. I prefer the centre console to slope down without a modern badly fitting radio sticking out the middle. The EQ-611 graphic equaliser contains little more than 3 BA5812L devices.

Dunc has a graphic eq. from a 940 for sale but it looks like it may be sold now.

I'd have a circa 1990 stereo in The Volvo, (preferably a Blaupunkt, Gelhard or Alpine, but possibly one of those Saisho or Audioline ones that Currys used to sell for £99, which many cars of my acquaintance ended up with in the late 1980s and early 1990s), but I'd miss having RDS and the CD changer on long journeys

EDIT: Here's a link to an Audioline jobby on the eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDIOLINE-CAR-...item3cae2b2593

I think it would look pretty good in a 1980s 740
