I've recently installed my VIDA 2012D on fresh Win7 Ulitimate. I can tun VIDA but the software doesn't see the car. It can see the attached interface but have an error "Communication error".

Default Ultimate VIDA install!

I too purchased one of the knock off VIDA/DiCE combos, but after MANY hours of work and several phone calls I finally managed to get a completely legit VCC/VIDA account and even got current 2014A DVD shipped to my door from Volvo! According to the paperwork that came with it, 2014A is the last version that will support XP, 2014B+ will be Win 7 Pro ONLY! Also, the cracked VIDA and the legit VIDA obviously cannot coexist, and I can't justify 2 laptops to run each version... so what I came up with is a dual boot setup, Windows 7 Pro x64 for VIDA 'legit' and Windows XP Pro for VIDA 'crack'.

It took about a week to work out all the kinks, but I think I've finally got the "ultimate" VIDA setup! I can do all the diagnostics and info searching whenever I need it in XP, and boot up to 7 when I need to download software! So far working awesome (I'm even using it to type this!). By the way, the reason I need a dual boot, is you can't even launch VIDA legit without an active subscription, and paying $150 everytime you need to read a code or something is a little steep!

What lights are on on the DiCE? You have it hooked up to the vehicles DLC port right? Hopefully you just have a driver issue, version too new for your 2012 disk or something. Otherwise, you could have a faulty DiCE.

Here is the price schedule from their site... didnt go for the $8k annual subscription! All I had to do was order the 3 day and they sent me an email saying they were shipping me the updated software.

Also worth noting, and I'm sure some of you will try and see I'm telling the truth, its not as simple as clicking the 'order now' button... The registration process IS open to 'independents' but there are a LOT of hoops to jump through!

No, thats correct.

SW downloads are only available for 3 days (and then I think individually chargeable over the basic subscription).

If you need to download a few things, a 3 day sub is obviously much easier to stomach than a years membership!

The software is active and usable all the time it is only the subscription and the ability to download vehicle software updates from Volvo that is only active for the 3 days. VIDA will still continue to work.

HTH.
