Is that hinge issue the same for both sides.. I'll have to have another look at mine, its parked the wrong way around and I'm knackered from being under the mini all day but I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I can remember.
Possibly something along the lines of peeling back that square rubber seal and fitting my cable along side the others... but I don't recall any issues about it being too tight, and mine was for reversing camera cable signal and power cables so that's two together |

Yes the hinge is the same both sides. Peeling back the rubber seal only reveals the edge of the metal plate

After a lot of head scratching I've found a way to wire in the rear dash camera. The V70 tailgate hinges are different to other cars in the fact they have a metal plate which holds a rubber seal to prevent water ingress. On the passenger side the wires go through the plate and there is no way to get another cable in there without causing mayhem. However the driver side only has the window washer tube going in there and with the tube removed and the grommet out there was just enough space to get the 2.5mm jack plug through. All stitched up and back together now and another job ticked off the list

When I bought the V70 I was told the car had an oil and filter change a couple of weeks earlier and was shown & given the invoices. Sure enough a genuine Volvo oil and air filter were fitted and I was more than impressed that they didn't cut corners with the oil, they had filled it with Shell Helix 0W-30.
What I didn't know at the time was the oil was the wrong type for my engine, they had filled it with ACEA C2/C3 instead of the more expensive ACEA A5/B5 So today was oil and filter change time. I don't have the correct 86mm-16F tool for removing the filter housing as the XC90 was the 36mm type (I've ordered the correct tool today and will be with me tomorrow) and was unsure how I was going to remove it but just my luck it was finger tight (should be torqued to 25Nm) The car had full Volvo history up until it was laid up in 2012 so I would hazard a guess that a Volvo dealership will have the correct removal tool and the filter housing looks like it's been attacked by the mechanics teeth... 5 litres of Castrol 0W-30 A5/B5 and engine run to check for leaks, will let the level sit for a while then re-check

Oil level checked and it required another ¾ litre to top it off
One of the first things I checked when I brought the car home was to check levels, the oil was overfilled by ¾ litre which I had to extract. Considering it had just been changed about 500 motorway miles earlier and looking at the colour I am suspicious now as to whether it did get an oil change... The oil I took out of the 850 which had been in for 2901 miles and 3 years was cleaner. Picture is the ¾ litre from the V70, the vacuum extractor was brand new so nothing has been in before this oil

Today when in the glovebox I noticed a broken cord at the rear and after a bit of investigation I discovered it was for the soft open mechanism.
I stripped the glove box out and try as I might there was no way I was going to get a secure fixing for the cord with the brass ferrule so decided to restring the entire mechanism It's not the easiest of items to dismantle, the bottom part of the plunger is tricky to separate and requires gentle persuasion. It took me several attempts with the length of the cord before I found something close to what it should be. I settled for 195mm between the knot and top of the loop All back together and ready to refit. Note the end grommit should be on in the opposite direction Grommit is inserted from behind

I decided my task today would be to fit my USB socket/voltage gauge into the space for the 12v socket of the CCM. I had previously fitted this to the XC90 and removed it before selling as it’s always handy to know the state of the battery and charging, plus USB is more convenient that a 12v socket.
I bought the USB socket from Amazon about 5 years ago and discovered the diameter was too large to fit into the hole when the 12v socket was removed. I put it in my lathe and removed the threads plus a little more until it was a good tight fit.
