Could this be a tad extreme? After all it is hardly onerous to change them over - and most cars don't even offer this facility.

On a recent visit to France my late 2010 non Sensus, worked fine I set it to RH coming out of the Chunnel and apart from the warning each time the engine was started, no reset required. On way back in Chunnel could not reset to LH until started the engine.

The strongest argument with Volvo for a change to the Sensus system is the very fact that it used to work in the sensible way that we are looking for.

Update, I haven't had to change it since setting to RH. Just get the message when starting. That's an improvement on the 10MY I guess.

A word of caution for anyone planning to take their XC into a French automated car wash. Don't. I tried one at the Super U this morning and had to bail out and leave the thing running. Apart from pulling off the little cap that covers the rear wiper arm, the up and over brush kept getting caught on the tailgate - didint hang around to find out if any more damage was to be had. Found and replaced the plastic cap and proceded to one of France's better inventions, their hand car wash stations. Car all clean now. Only trouble I can now see the dent on the drivers door some miserable French git gave me in a car park. It took the paint off as well. No offence to the French, but I saw the old bugger do it. Not worth the insurance hassle. £80 smart repair at the next service.

I have been driving in France for the last 2 weeks and every time the ignition fob is removed the Bi-Xenon headlights lights revert to RHD. Often I forget to change to LHD and frequently get flashed by oncoming drivers even in daylight.. I would be happy to to make Volvo aware that a change in software would be useful and would appreciate a contact email.

By the way, if you were driving a white R Design XC60 through Malaucene, Provence this morning, hello again.

I don't have a contact email, but I have used the contact form on the Volvo UK website, and they are usually fairly prompt in response: http://www.volvocars.com/uk/top/abou...s_contact.aspx

Global Customer Services in Sweden are: cem@volvocars.com

I don't have one for Volvo UK but it is important that they know too!

I've sent a message to Volvo using that link. I'll let you know if I get anything interesting in response.

The more I think about it, the more stupid and dangerous the current set up is. But I'm not going to get carried away about the impact - most of my driving is in the UK and the rest of the XC60 experience is fantastic. A long trip with two young children in the back was surprisingly relaxing for all - it's a fantastic family car.

Had a nice email from the Deputy Manager of Customer Support in Sweden to say that he has passed the issue to Volvo headlight people and will follow up with them at the end of next week! Progress?

They will also keep an eye on the forum for any pattern of complaints about the range of cars!

Pity the poor XC70 owner - on my wife's 2012 SE Lux there is NO software facility of any flavour to change to RH traffic.

It's headlamp out and manual switch jobbie - At least they stay changed!

Mollusk.
