Transponder
This might help some people?
It saves cutting open a key fob to remove the transponder and possibly damaging it. If it's the only one you have and you break it then you might have a mega bill from Volvo! Having had my V70 steering lock barrel fail (not going past position 1) I bought a secondhand lock and key set from a volvo breaker (came with two complete remote key fobs £70). I had already had a spare valet key cut at a local key shop and it turns out that they insert the transponder into a small slide-in plug that you can remove quite easily by prying it out. I took the transponder out and glued it onto the transponder pickup ring where you insert the ignition key (check position works first by taping in place). Make sure that you keep the same transponder I have not tried but I think it will be coded to the car. With the transponder permanently fixed I may have reduced the security of the car but my new keys work and any future ones won't need programming. The remote central locking transmitter can be swapped very easily to the new blade just by removing the battery opening, removing the t10 screw and sliding off. Probably saved over £300 |
