Dare I put on my pedant hat and point out that those are the 7.5" wide Eiker E1 copies...?
I thought the B230E was 130bhp...I guess that must have been the earlier higher compression version, as I see this is set up for 95 octane. cheers James

It's not much power for a big car, but still, it goes quite well and this will be adequate until we put something fast in there! John |

For me, that one looks a bit too low. Definitely not Yorkshire-road-friendly

True...but you got away with that by the narrowest of margins!
136 was the B23E with the K cam. The older B23E with the H cam made 140. Yeah, 130/131 is the number I'm familiar with. I bet it's the compression ratio... cheers James

Well there's progress for you. With fundamentally the same engine, after a few year's intensive development work, Volvo managed to loose over 10% of the power...

Peak power, anyway. I suspect (given the 'A' cam in the 'E' engines was shorter duration) that it was in the name of low-down grunt and fuel efficiency...and potentially improving emissions.
cheers James

according to my handbook my car was really meant to run on super unleaded- hence the idle was never 100% smooth when i ran it on 95...
still it was always good for low down grunt as you say james. and then just picked up once you got past 4000 rpm i did find though occasions when more power would have been a good move! Nick

Which year was yours, Nick? I doubt the idle was octane related, to be honest...I blame teh K-Jets.
cheers James
