Have added a rusty 142S to my 164 auto so although i am mid 30's and reasonably affluent, fuel for the 164 and welding wire/repair panels for the 142S have rapidly changed that. Add to that a daily driver Land Rover Defender, I have very little time for polishing anything.

No beard or pipe.

Default Type of Volvo

No Beard. Middle Class. My son says middle aged.

3.0 kids 1.0 wife 1.0 brown labrador 2.0 green barbour 3.0 pairs green wellies0.0 shotguns

Ran an 855 T5 from 1999-2009 as principal car
Ran out of elbow room 2008 with kids 14/12/10 and bought a 1999 Merc E240 estate because the back seat is wider. Thought it was a quality car but its a W210 so body and wings are made from papier mache. It's now on ebay and probably will go to a breaker - replaced with a 1998 BMW528i touring - body made from girders!
Wrote off T5 on black ice end of 2009 and faced with replacing it as my runabout (My wife uses the big german plutobarge and likes the auto box - my Volvos have been manual).
Replaced with a 1996 855 2.0SE and it's the ....
  • Carry the dog to and from muddy places
  • Carry bikes and kids to and from muddy places
  • Take the kids round paper rounds when the weather is foul
  • Take stuff to the dump
  • Leave at the station
  • Drive by choice when we have snow and ice (broadly sort of October to March on recent experience)
...car - ie the one I turn to when I really need to do something demanding on the car rather than just wafting about in a big German auto barge.

I just got my first car.... and it's a Volvo!

Having driven dozens of various cars that belonged to other people, I decided I liked the "boxy" estate best... so, last month, I was looking for an under-£1000 Volvo of the general 240/850/early V70 type. Found a V70 that I liked the look of, so I got that.

The red window pillars remind me of a bus, or a railway carriage. Yep, I definitely prefer boxy to curvy!

Just bought my first Volvo, a 2007 XC70 2.4 Diesel Estate (MY02-07).

Just come in from 6 & 1/2 yrs of trouble free 70k miles Vx Vectra 'B', then 'C' ownership so hope the XC proves as good. :-)

Now got a 2002 S80 D5 Executive and previously had a (brand new) 2004 S60 2.4D and 2003 V70 Bi-Fuel, both the last 2 being company cars that I luckily had been given a budget for and not a particular type that I had to buy.
