I just picked up my brand new MY10 XC60 SE Lux Premium on Friday. I was aware of the wind noise issue from reading the forums but as Volvo are apparently aware of it didn't think it would be an issue. As I drove home on the M25 I notice the wind noise from about 55mph. As I got up to 70mph it was loud enough to drown out the stereo!

I called London Cars who were unaware of the issue as was Cambridge Garage (my local dealer). I am taking it in next week to get it fixed. A little disappointed this wasn't done in the factory. Otherwise the car is fantastic.

My last post seems to have got lost in the recent database crash but my noise was fixed eventually. It turned out it was coming from the wing mirror not the a-pillar. There is some kind of fix-it kit for wing mirror wind noise that a dealer can get and fit. I *think* it involves sticking some tape over some gaps in the mirror.

I can now second that. I just got the car back and the official fix from Volvo is to replace the rubber seals either side of the A Pillar with stiffer rubber ones than they currently use. This was done this afternoon and did not resolve the problem. The system told them to submit a technical report to Volvo if the fix doesn't work. The dealers retracted the mirrors during the speed test and believe the resulting pitch change in the noise (other than from driving with the mirrors folded) proves it must be the wing mirror. I should hear back next week as to the way ahead and shall keep you posted.

GriffJnr, as you live near Guildford I suggest you nip into Squire Furneaux at Pirbright as they know how to cure this problem - they managed to do it for me

I gave up on Cambridge (suspect this is who use use in Petersfield ) with my last Volvo as they provided terrible service

Just got the car back and the noise is gone :0) It was really annoying. There are now three wind noise fixes from Volvo, the issue with mine was where the mirror meets the body of the car. The mechanic said he took the mirror off and padded the area out using foam tape and then squeezed it back on - no noise.

To be fair to Cambridge Garage in Petersfield, they were very good and the service was excellent. I am really enjoying the new car and the 2.4D really does make a great sound, I just couldn't hear it before!

Good to hear they have restored decent service - they were good a few years ago, maybe they just went through a purple patch

My car has been in twice now for the wind noise at Paul Rigby (former Stratstone) in Birmingham. They initially changed the A Post seals - although I am not convinced - but this did not work. On the second visit they allegedly applied the wing mirror fix. Maybe it was the temperature, maybe it was the wind direction, but the noise went away after the second fix.

Recently it has come back. It's like an old steam kettle whistle from 50mpg to 75mph. On inspecting the mirror I noticed they had packed out the gap beteen the drop glass and the mirror foot with butyle putty. It basically looks like glazing putty and is crude to say the least, and probably not sanctioned by Volvo as it looks sh!t.

I now have my car booked into Johnsons in Solihull to have a go.

It's a shame as I really enjoy the car and this issue is a minor fault, but one that really bugs me on long journeys.

I can imagine how annoying that must be, especially the crude bodge job!
I would have thought Volvo would have a Technical Bulletin available with the correct fix for this sort of issue.
I know its of no consolation to you, but I wonder if recently built cars are still being delivered with this wind noise issue?

All this is so strange. My XC60 (del 27/5 2009) has none of the wind noise issues and I have been doing speeds well over the 100 mark on several occasions in Germany....

I've not been going above 85mph (thread title) but have done probably over 150 motorway miles at 70-80 and there is no noticeable wind noise at all. In fact, as I've mentioned previously it's is very much quieter than our previous CRV, which I didn't think of as particularly noisy. Quite the opposite in fact.
