I tried taking pics of the interior with ambient lighting on but they didn't turn out very well because of nearby street lighting. I'll try again another time.
How do you rate the interior mood lighting?

Tbh, average at best. Better than nothing I suppose but you get similar anbient lighting on other cars as standard, not a £220 option.

Looks very nice. When do they come on?

I have some really nice mood lighting in my Mercedes. Could not get it to work on the Volvo Inscription I had for a day so could not see.

They come on, along with the approach lighting, if you use the key fob to remotely unlock the doors.

Ah ok. Is that not a little counter productive in the sense that the key is meant to be a fob and work based on proximity, so you don't need to use the physical buttons?

I don't have a fob 'key' with my current car so will likely continue to press the buttons out of habit and enjoy the handle lighting

Thanks - useful info! I have black fabric seats at the moment and everything is filthy.

With the XC90 I'm planning to get the protectors to place beneath the car seats, and possibly some sort of lining/protector for the back of the front seats.

Do you do anything else / similar to reduce the risk of stains/marks etc?

Volvo kick guards for the backs of front seats are very tidy plus good quality child seat protectors for under the children seats to prevent leather marking and reduce impressions. I really wouldn't do anything else and enjoy the leather you paid for. It needs an occasional clean for which Volvo wipes are perfect (you will get a courtesy set in the glove compartment).
Full lining on poppers for the boot is great for prams and golf gear.

why did you have to pay for the lighting? is it not standard in MY17?
I may be wrong as I was mostly looking at the R-Design spec.
