Another picture of the breather system. The two unbraided hoses will connect to a oil catch tank. Not happy yet with the tank I have so will adapt or replace. I have taken apart a nice toaster from the fifties and am considering making a tank from the chrome plated toaster case, pic to follow, but requires lots of brazing and fabrication so will need patience

The toaster oil catch tank, just held together with a bit of wire at the moment but would be a nice original part when it comes out OK

Really interesting thread, I own & have owned a bunch of MX5s, a couple of M / MP45 charged ones and an MP62 charged one ... hadn't thought about charging the Amazon (not that I even have one yet) but that's got to be a future project!! I even have a BMW Mini MP45 charger and a load of bits (intercooler, Megasquirt, AFPR etc) sat in the garage from a previous project so I might just keep hold of that rather than selling it!

Russell.

A view from the back also revealing the crank sensor position in the gearbox bracket underneath the block, more pics in following posts

The actual sensor, it will, read the back of the flywheel which I will drill once I have a good jig to do it fabricated. Try out on flywheel #1 was not a great success but gave enough pointers for a second try

The oil pan was notched so the sensor and its bracket would fit. I will post a breakdown later

Fuel system now all complete, this is just a mock up of what the test bench layout could look like. I hope to have the option to attach the gearbox as well, it depends on how much my small shed can handle for now in terms of floor space occupancy by a test bench ;-)

Finally got the right size xpz belts in today, I now own all sizes above and below as well, when I change the pulley size on the supercharger to lower or increase boost they might come in handy again....
Really pleased with the belt drives...

The crank pulley is an original volvo one used on b20/b30 block for auxiliaries such as power steering and A/C, challenge was that the pulley drive for the alternator and water pump is the forward one which necessitates different offsets for their pulleys, therefore:
The water pump pulley is of a MGB, the offset is far less than the original volvo one and diameter is bigger which will slow down flow but I have heard that is not a bad thing, especially on high rpm. I am considering to also use an additional electric water pump to maintain a base level flow/pressure in the cooling system
The alternator is of VW origin and has a very wide attachment barrel and moves forward quite a bit compared to the stock Volvo alternator, using a few washers I can space it out enough to line up with the crank pulley.
The supercharger has a 16 mm shaft to which a 1108 taper bush fits and makes it possible to fit different size 2 groove pulleys. Now a 63mm pulley fitted which makes the ratio 136/63 = 2,16. For each rotation of the engine the supercharger will push in 0.45 litre x 2.16 = 1 litre of air additional to natural aspirated I believe as it is a eaton M45. On the supercharger I can go from 60 mm (2.26 ratio) to 71 mm (1.91) so plenty to play with as I don't know to what boost these ratios will translate.

And the starter motor. Strangely enough I got this one fom eBay years ago, rebuilt sealed in original box for a steal, only fitted it properly today and somehow the bolt holes are slightly offset. I drilled out the holes in the block to overcome but I am a bit puzzled on why the starter fits perfectly snug in the hole, it reads Volvo 142 (B20?) but holes are 1 mm off. Is it from a B21? Will it fit the flywheel ring gear? I should check....
