That's not much. In Holland there were 9035 240's active in the register on 1-1-2006. They still want decent money for them too, 2000-4000 euro's for the 90's estate models.

Hello...
Been a while since i'v been here... but I wanted to know the answer to this, so i sent a tx to these guys 63336 AQA. some of u may of heard of them.
They sent me a tx and told me that there r only about 100 Volvo 262C's left on the road in England. Thats what I wanted to know at the time. What I want to know is, of the Hundred, how many r in mint condition on an 81 plate with the 2.8 engine!! Hens teeth spring to mind! |

Surviving 240/260s
Many thanks to 146Ken for this list, but I must say I find the 264/265 figures hard to believe. I have a nice low-mileage 265GL on the road plus another for spares, am in touch with the owner of a VERY early 264DL on a SORN, saw the 265GL sold recently on ebay from Worthing, and see another 265GL in Reigate quite often. Then of course there's the immaculate 264GL rallied by the chairman of the Sussex Section of the Club, and thats only little ole me in the souith-east, so the law of averages dictates there MUST be more survive than they have listed.
No mention of 1975 245DLs, and 1978 244DLs - can you send us a copy of the full list so I can see if they know of mine........ Does it also show PVs by any chance? Email audakt@tesco.net sometime please - many thanks. |

200 series models.
Ken, thanks for sorting out this information, I'm sure it will be of interest to many VOC members (and forum users.) You ask what the SE & Torslanda models were.
As far as I know, SE normally refers to special edition, certainly my '93 model had just about everything on it when I bought it new. ie, electric heated mirrors, electric windows all round, plush upholstery etc etc. In fact everything that a salesman told me was desirable when trying to sell me a V70 several years later! (naturally he did not succeed ! ) But then again it was the end of the range and as far as I can see they had gone as far as possible with the existing bodyshell & style, which was beginning to look dated (or classic if you prefer) Regarding Torslanda models, as every Volvo freak knows this is the area of Gothenburg where they are made, this name was put on to some of the last ones made to try and get rid of them so the specification varied from the 240SE. They were only available in three colours, no electric rear windows etc but interestingly enough did come with alloy wheels. This is probably why they introduced Torslanda versions of the V70 prior to new shape being introduced. Rumour has it that they were so popular the factory had to keep making them after the planned finish date. I remember the same thing happened with the old Ford Cortina Crusader, they had to keep building them to meet demand ! I was also told by a Volvo employee when on a VOC holiday that at the end of the production run the Swedish emergency services people were stockpiling 200 & 900 series models for conversion into ambulances, they were that satisfied with them. Thanks again for your efforts. Regards, Richard VOC3801 Last edited by 93240se; Mar 8th, 2007 at 09:25. Reason: addtl info |

Hi Ken, Thanks for spending the time to get info from the DVLA. BTW does S/R mean Sunroof?

The list
Hi
I have now sent the list to a few others and happy to answer further requests. If those who have already got it would send it to a few others then it might keep my email a little clearer. The list itself I find a bit of a disappointment. The information is limited to the classification of the model on the V5 document. Several of the more common 240 models have more than one entry, possibly referring to different production runs. There is no no indication of saloon or estate; nor engine size. Looking at a V5 it should be possible to compile data from section 4 - Vehicle details: Year of manufacture, Model type, Body type, CC, and colour I am in touch by email with a chap at DVLA and intend to send further requests for info to clarify things. I thought it might be best to get a clear idea of the depth and type of info we all want before bombarding him with more questions. What do you think? |

262C AUTO - 23 and 18 SORN The information might be free, doesn't mean it's correct. |

If any one has a V5 document with S/R listed under model type it might help answer this. I don't think it means sunroof; I have a 240GLT without and a 240SE with a sunroof, no distinction made on V5.

Kens list
Many thanks for list of 240s known to the DVLA (not that they know the true picture - I have had 3 off-road for ages - too long to be SORN'd, just in case.....).
Yes it would make it easier to get a more accurate breakdown as to age, saloon/estate, auto or manual and engine size, so if your contact can help that would be great. Thats the trouble with Volvo altering their designations over the years they made 240s: I doubt there is this problem with PVs and 164s, the other loves of my life! I'll let fellow-members of the Sussex Section have a copy at the next meeting. Paul |
