Morning all.

I have just bought an 06 v50 D5 sport with a geartronic gearbox. Miles to empty was exactly 400, and thats three days commute on mainly motorway (at about 82) and one spirited drive through the countryside on the weekend, plus general round town bimbling. To refil took 53.4 litres which I get to equal 34.1mpg.

Is that good or bad for this car? Oh, and its got 32000 on the clock.

Smile S60 vs C30

Hi Discoboy,

What engine was your S60/D5 ? im guessing the 163bhp Eur 3? (or did it have DPF?) that might explain the better mpg figures, How do you find the performance of your C30 compared to old S60? I would imagine it should be a lot better due to the lower weight of the C30 and the fact you probably have the 185/180? bhp D5 in the C30 (guessing). Does anyone have the kerb weight for the C30 to compare with the S60 (2030KG is S60-D5-185), its the first Line weight on the Vin plate. Maybe you can post the weight on your C30.

C30 D5 - Get between 34.5 and 37 usually, but my run is as uneconomical as it can get (2 miles a day all in 30 limits) and usually when I get it into open countryside, I like to stretch its legs.

That said I bet I'd see low teens from a T5 on the same work, so I'm happy enough.

Hi Thassos, are you certain about that kerb weight? I thought our S60's were around the 1600kg mark as i tow a caravan and that was an important consideration for me.

Thassos: I really don't know how the S60 weighed in but I'm pretty sure my C30 comes in around 1980kg or thereabouts. 100kg over the 2.0L Diesel is what I read a while back.
Performance wise, yes it does feel pokier than the S60 but I think the firmer suspension and gearing helps to some degree - certainly doesn't feel like a galleon around country lanes like the S60 could!
I take it the dpf dampens performance?
Dew1911: sounds like you're getting same as me.

Not strictly a "Proper" D5 (mines the D5252T Audi lump) in the S80 but just Buggerin about town & the Fylde Coast I'm getting 46.3 MPG

(as tracked by the "Fuelly" Website)

Smile Kerb Weight

The 2030KG figures was from the plate under the bonnet, looking at the S60 Series2 brochure (P21) they show 1600KG as kerb weight for D5 Manual (with towing 1600Kg=braked and 750KG unbraked for those that tow things ). But then the user manual says Kerb weight includes driver and 90% full tank fuel ! maybe they use very heavy drivers for their calculations !

An interesting comparison on the S60 would be the 185bhp Euro 4 (6 speed) these are noticeably quicker than the 163 particularly in upper revs range, I dont think the Euro 4 DPF seems to affect the performance too much, your C30 must have one also ?

the first weight on the plate is the maximum weight that the car can weigh mine for example is as follows.
2160KG ,3960KG , 1- 1080KG and 2-1130KG
first weight -total car weight.what you can load it to
second weight - maximum train weight ie car plus trailer.
then both axles.
i have weighed mine on the weighbridge and it comes out at just over 1700kg.and i can tow to 1800kg

Yeah, I'm happy enough with it. If I'd have been too worried about economy I'd have bought a 1.6 DriveSlow
