I did think of checking the carb securing nut/ bolts, but it looked difficult to get to them. I might be wrong though. I think this was a replacement carb fitted by the previous owner, a Mercedes trained mechanic, and he always did things up tight! I tried a sort of leak test spraying WD40 around the joint between cab and manifold, did not find any leak. I've lower the level of petrol in the tank now, so could soon try the methylated spirit. Saturday I'll probably get the non return valve from the 340 GLE. |

Over the weekend I stole the non return valve from my 340 GLE and put it on the 340 GL. It made no difference. The car still does an occasionally poor idle, although not as bad as when this problem first started.
Meanwhile, I'm getting the level down in the fuel tank. When a bit lower, I can try the methylated spirit trick. If I try this will it have an effect on the emissions? I have an MOT coming up soon. Thanks again to all that have contributed. Saw this listing on eBay, I have no connection with the sale. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164889085...8AAOSwFe1gpvG0 |

They're pretty good figures for a carb engine, , i normally get about 1%CO and about 80-95ppm HC from my 760 which is injection but no cat.
My other beast, injection with cat, i normally see 0.00% CO and 60-80ppmHC.
