It's a 145, no one wants them. He should have bought a Amazon or 245. Probably worth £1k when he's finished, with it's poor service history and then puts it on ebay for way too much. :-)

Sorry couldn't resist a dig at the theme of this thread.

Hi Steve, Apologies for the cr*p photo, it is the only one I can find. It was taken in 1984 and shows the 1800ES - 22,000mls and in concours condition - the only car I have sold and regretted ever since. 1949 Bentley MKVI - restored to concours. My first Volvo 1969 145S - daily driver and had about 100,000mls on at that time and my father's 1971 145S in turquoise, his daily up until he died.

I think Volvo used to do a Midnight Blue on the Amazons. I thought it was code 96 but this seems to be listed as dark blue.

Here it is on a 123GT (the car I first saw it on), with a tan interior. The colour does look great in the flesh, not quite as black as it appears in this photo...

I think this chart will be useful. https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/paint_colour_codes.shtml

Although my local dealer insisted on calling my blue 145 'Royal Blue' it was certainly darker than what I know as Royal Blue. in certain light it was a definite dark blue but lighter than true Navy Blue. The only colour on the chart that would appear to be correct would be 114 Dark Blue.

Volvo naming of colours can be a little strange at times. The interiors in both the V40 and C70 are the same shade - namely black. The V40 is officially known as 'Off Black' and the C70 as 'Dark Grey'.

Many thanks chaps, what a line up that is ITSv40, they look fantastic, we all have regrets, but Lucian, many thanks for that midnight blue Amazon photo, it might make a colour change slightly more palatable.especially as it’s been sprayed badly in a generic off white, door shuts are perhaps original paint but more white.

Not worth worrying and regretting cars we have sold over the years, if only etc etc. HGN 415K is showing on SORN so could be sitting in someone’s barn.

Worth a post to see if you could find the current owner?? or just leave sleeping dogs lie…….

Cheers

Yes, I must admit I do generally like dark coloured cars. That is the period correct dark green and does look right.

Although it doesn't show the interior, it will be that nice tan that you coveted in the Bentley. Your current blue is correct for dark blue exterior.
