The grey VWW would have had no value by the 1990s and would have just been parked up somewhere; they did rust quite a bit so it is fortunate to have survived more or less intact. It reminds me a little of a motorcar my grandfather (Abe) had back in the day, a maroon saloon. PS. Before anyone jumps to a conclusion that I'm going to get an Austin Cambridge just because old Abe had one - forget that! I couldn't live with yet another 1960s motor car and GAM suits me perfectly .

https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/volvo_145_s#tax ... one is a 1969, the other two unspecified MY, so it probably is the only 1970 145 S remaining. I'm not sure that is a particular selling point, there aren't many left because they weren't very popular and they rusted a lot. I wonder what sort of person would take this on; it is too far gone to be a rolling restoration and so is only good for a complete restoration, which would not cost less than £25,000. When finished it would be a rare example of an unpopular car with little provenance. Would it be worth £30,000? No, of course not. Yesterday eve I watched the Drew Pritchard restoration programme about a Jenson (Interceptor I think) that had been restored properly at a cost of £75,000 and taken 3 years, but only made £52,000 (minus selling costs) at sale. The programme was interesting enough to hold my attention (in spite of Drew Pritchard) because it demonstrated well what a pointless exercise complete restorations are from a financial perspective. This Volvo 145 S would certainly be the same, £25,000 plus purchase costs to achieve something worth £10,000 2 years later.

Sorry Dave, no chalk line, but more of a 145 shaped distinct patch of green algae/moss on the tarmac that was under the car, and a bit on the north side where the sun didn't reach.
Just suggested to me, that it had been stuck outside with window part open!! so probably hadn't moved for donkeys. Cheers Steve |

Didn't know whether or not that was the one you'd been to see Steve. I saw it listed among the modern Volvos rather than in the classic section of e-bay,classics do sometimes crop up there either advertised in the wrong segment or spread across both segments for maximum coverage.

That tester likes their corrosion advisories. Corroded brake caliper brackets and calipers deemed worthy of a mention. Would be interesting to get underneath and see if it has been parked on a beach for 10 years, or if the tester is benig awfully overzealous. |

The market for classic motor cars has certainly softened a bit, this one is nice but it is hard to see it making more than £8,000 to£9,000.
