It looks that way but says this lot will be auctioned on 17th of June.

Deceptive.🧐

Well, 9 days left to go, I'm viewing the old grey 145 VWW this Thurs, down in Somerset, so will have a decision to make.

I reckon the Amazon will go over £10k, (submit best estimates......) admittedly a fine looking vehicle, but it's not really going to give me a full 'project' experience I was really looking for. Far to good a vehicle to start breaking out the welding gear👍

Choices choices, mmmmm

At least is the 145 is not as good as he's said, then I've possibly another alternative.

Cheers

I suppose it mostly comes down to money. I should think 10 grand would be a fair price for the Amazon VWW. The seller might be expecting a bit more so watch out for shill bidding to nudge it along.

I think (in my humble opinion) that £5,500 is a bit high for the 140 VWW; the thing is it will probably cost you a bit more than £4,500 to get it into about the same condition, so depending on the sale prices the Amazon might be better value.

Just the musings of a middle aged man with a beard.

Hi Alan,

I agree regarding the price, and we have had a reasonable chat over the phone, and we seem to have arrived at a 'landing zone' where seller and buyer are both happy, obviously subject to it actually being as good as he has claimed, and the spares also are not rubbish.

If a deal is done, I will expand further in due course🤞🤞

Cheers
Steve

That is plenty of information for a public web forum Steve. Good fortune with the VWW in Somerset.

Allegedly top speed of 103mph, 0-60 in 13.5s and 20.2mpg - whether the the 5 speed box from Oct 62 improved economy is another matter though. Previously it had an overdrive box from an Austin Healey. I daresay more parts bins were raided for the run of the mill stuff but the bodies were obviously bespoke (built by Park Ward apparently) and engines were an Alvis design.

Talking of the bodies, these always reminded me of the RR Shadow Mk1 coupe, can't think of the proper name of it but there was a Bentley variant too.

I believe that was a Park Ward body as well so maybe the similarity isn't just coincidence!
The two door Silver Shadow pictured was Coachbuilt by James Young of Bromley. As the Silver Shadow was a monocoque body, Rolls-Royce were unable to supply chassis only to the Coachbuilders. James Young were rivals to Mulliner Park Ward, the coachbuilders wholly owned by Rolls-Royce. Therefore, Rolls-Royce would not sell incomplete shells to James Young. James Young bought complete, finished, standard four door cars from Rolls and stripped the interiors, modified the body sides to two door configuration and bespoke interiors to suit. Needless to say they were considerably more expensive than the standard four door offering from Rolls. I think, from memory, either 9 or 11 cars were completed in 1966 -'69 before James Young ceased trading.

The two door offering by Rolls-Royce was a completely different shape to the Four door, it having a 'Coke bottle' swage line and high haunches over the back wing. originally known as a Silver Shadow Mulliner Park Ward later renamed Corniche. A much more elegant car than the Shadow ever was.

Regarding the Alvis TD 21 bodies. Alvis entrusted the design and manufacture of the prototypes to Graber Coachbuilders of Switzerland with the intention of Graber building the production bodies. However, the contract of the production bodies was awarded to Park-Ward Coachbuilders, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rolls-Royce.
